Oh Aldi ... Sweet Aldi

Since returning to Canberra I have discovered Aldi shopping. Their advertising is true ... 'you switch and you save' - its not a gimmick, I only had to do it once and I saw the difference immediately.

It was my recently retired parents who introduced me to Aldi's specials. Like me, my parents change in life circumstances (retirement), called for more savvy grocery shopping and Aldi allowed them to achieve that.

Now, I too, am a convert who awaits the catalogue each week to see their offerings.

I find Aldi's products are great and their regular shelf prices are frequently less than the advertised sale prices at Coles and Woollies. They have an easy to use search engine to compare prices and even write your own personalised shopping list (giving a running total for those on a tight budget) to take with you when you shop.

For those of you yet to 'embrace Aldi', here are some grocery staples that I've tried which represent amazing value and are good quality. You probably won't see these items appearing on my 'weekly bargain list' because rarely do Coles/Woollies prices compare. 

If you have an Aldi nearby, you are crackers if you don't get the following there:

• Dips - Eggplant, Olive
• Deli items - olives, sundried tomatoes etc
• Fresh Pasta (my favourite is the mushroom)

• Laundry stain remover spray

• Dishwasher tablets
• Bin liners

• Glad wrap
• Alfoil
• Baking paper

• Dried Pasta
• Tinned tomatoes

• Olive Oil

• Peanut butter
• Honey

• Water crackers 
• Rice crackers 
• Rice cakes

I've also been pretty impressed with: 

fresh produce - of note, their tomatoes - vine ripened and Roma tomatoes and pre-mixed salads like Crunchy salad.

the meat section - for marinated flattened chickens and de-boned marinated chickens (Greek lemon and oregano flavour)

favourite grocery item - my personal favourite is the pancake mix - we are addicted to the Buttermilk variety which are great with the addition of a mashed banana and half the price of the other brands!

I'm not claiming that you can get everything you need there - but you can get lots and if you switch, you will save this week!
